5 Awesome Sidewalk Chalk Activities
Last week we were freezing, getting huge amounts of rain. This week has been crazy hot! That is what the weather likes to do to us in Idaho. As soon as the sun comes out, we all want to be outside! We have the sweetest neighbor kids who like to come over and play with my daughter and I wanted to come up with some fun sidewalk chalk activities that they could all play together and that the parents could even get involved in! Here are 5 sidewalk chalk activities that will keep your family busy this summer!
Before any outdoor activity, we are sure to stay safe out in the sun. I always have water bottles with me so that we can stay hydrated and we apply sunscreen to protect our skin. I make sure to bring extra sunscreen with me anytime we are playing outside because I know that people forget to apply it often!
I really love to keep the Banana Boat Sport Performance Lotion Sunscreen with me because it has Powerstay technology to keep it in place, no matter what your activity is! You can play in the sun, sand, pool, ocean, wind, 100 degree heat, and even sweat during it all and this will stay on. It keeps our skin safe with its UVA and UVB protection so that we don’t have to focus on our skin and instead focus on having fun and making memories.
Sidewalk Chalk Pictionary: This is played basically the same way that regular Pictionary would be played, only you are drawing on the sidewalk instead. You can create two teams and compete, or just play all together and have fun guessing what the person is drawing. You can write out different items to draw on paper and choose out of a hat, or you can have someone who isn’t playing whisper the items to draw into the artist’s ear. We had a lot of fun playing this game. It is always fun to see how artistic people are while playing Pictionary!
Sidewalk Chalk Target Ball: Draw a large target on the sidewalk and draw a line that goes back a few feet and take turns throwing the ball to see how many points you can get. Each player gets three throws per turn. This could even be played with water balloons if you are willing to see your target slowly disappear from the water.
Sidewalk Chalk Letter Hop: This game is both fun, and educational! This can be played two different ways. Write out the alphabet on the driveway and have the players stand around the letters. For older kids who can already read, you can give them a word to spell and they have to jump to each letter in order to spell it. For younger kids who are still becoming familiar with their letters, you can tell them a letter or letter sound and they have to find the letter to jump on it. There aren’t any “winners” to this game. It is just fun to challenge each other to spell different words that you know people will have to jump pretty far to get and little kids love jumping around to find the letters they are learning!
Sidewalk Chalk Tic Tac Toe Ball: This is just like the classic tic tac toe game, only with a fun twist! Draw your tic tac toe grid on the sidewalk and stand back a few feet, taking turns to throw the ball at the grid. You draw your X or O where your ball lands. This takes away from the strategy that normally comes with playing tic tac toe on a piece of paper. Once again, if you want to play with water balloons or something, you could, but your grid will start washing away.
Sidewalk Chalk Pictures: You have probably seen all sorts of sidewalk chalk photo prop pictures on the internet, but we wanted to try them out for ourselves! I have always loved the balloon ones that I have seen, but we decided to try our own designs too by creating a fairy princess and a giant bubble wand with bubbles. I have also seen people turned into butterflies, super heroes, or in scenes to make them look like they are swimming! The possibilities are endless! Draw your scene on the driveway, have your models lay down, climb up on a ladder, and take fun pictures!
Please, do not forget to protect your loved ones from the sun this summer!
Apply some Banana Boat sunscreen before you play outside! It won’t run in your eyes, it is water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes, and it is available in a variety of SPF levels. No matter what your family is doing, Banana Boat Sport Performance Lotion Sunscreen can protect your family’s skin so you don’t have to worry and can continue to create those special summer memories!
