7 Things to Live a More Holistic Lifestyle

Feeling beautiful starts with overall health and wellness. It is important to nourish your body from the inside. I have been focusing a lot on this over the past few weeks. I have found 7 things that have helped me a lot with this process of feeling healthier and rejuvenated.

The first way has been through physical activity. This seems pretty obvious, but my body always feels good after a hard workout. I have loved finding ways to break a sweat each day. I recently went to a conference that gave me very little time to exercise. One night, I decided to do lunges and squats in my hotel room while visiting with friends and I was shocked at just how sore my legs were the next day. I was so glad that I had taken the time to exercise while I was still able to participate in conversation. I try to squeeze in a workout almost every day. Many of those exercises end up happening at home. Although it can be difficult to exercise with small children around, I never regret that I took the time to exercise.

The second way that I have tried to live a more holistic lifestyle is through yoga. It goes hand in hand with getting physical activity, but it is hard to focus on clearing my mind when I am focusing on breaking a major sweat. Yoga has been a great way to stretch my sore muscles while easing my mind.

Taking the time to read has been something I have tried to make the time to do a lot more lately. I try to read a little every day. Sometimes it is 10 minutes and other days it is an hour. I take what I can get, but I have loved being able to read a little daily. I read self help books, magazines, and scriptures. I have found that it has increased my knowledge while taking my mind off of daily stresses that seem to consume my mind usually.

I have started to literally schedule in my day a specific time that I put my phone on silent and spend uninterrupted time with my daughter. That time has become really sacred to me. I have loved feeling like I have been able to really get to know her for who she is while I am away from the distractions of technology. Even if you don’t have children, taking some time away from electronics every day is so important! Go see a friend and leave your phone in the car.

Getting more sleep has been a major goal of mine. I wear a sleep tracker and I was shocked when I learned that I averaged about 5 hours of sleep a night every week. I knew that I needed to make some changes to fix that. I don’t always get the full 8 hours of sleep, but I am happy to report that I am much closer to a 7 hour average per night every week. My mood is so much better when I get enough sleep!

I have recently been working on slowly killing my sugar addiction. I have been working to replace my love of candy with love of organic juice or almonds. Although I don’t ever want to stop eating candy entirely, I want to get to a place in my life where I don’t feel like my need for sugar controls me anymore.
