This time of year can bring so many great things like structured schedules and sweater weather. This time of year can also bring some negative things like allergies, germs being passed around at school, lack of exercise, and cold/flu season. With each new season, I like to sit down and make goals for myself. I am truly trying to be a healthier me in many ways and I want to spread that to my family. We are doing a few things to make our family healthier that I want to share with you!
Healthy Back to School Habits
One goal that we have as a family is to drink more water. I know that this is something that you hear time and time again, but there is a reason for that. Water helps your body be healthier all around. Each member of our family has a water bottle that keeps the water cold for hours. This has really helped our water intake. We take them with us everywhere!
A weakness of our family is how we snack. We are all pretty big fans of unhealthy snacks. I have tried to find good alternatives to our favorite snacks to keep around the house. If we don’t have cookies and candy at our house, we won’t eat it! It is pretty simple, but a huge change for our family.
Thankfully, there are now products that can help kids and parents to help supplement their nutrition. One supplement to look into is Kid Mood Plus. You can learn all about it from A Less Toxic Life, and maybe it is the right fit for your family!
Keeping Sickness Away
I try to keep hand disinfectant with me all year, but when the weather starts to cool down I really make sure that we are using it frequently! We don’t ever replace soap with the disinfectant, but use it as a supplemental step to keep our family healthy and try to stay away from the germs that seem to be floating all around us.
My favorite is this hand sanitizer that is easy to spray on and it smells incredible!
I also really love keeping Ricola Dual Action Honey Lemon drops with me. They provide relief for coughs and sore throats and are really soothing and naturally effective, with a blend of 10 natural Swiss alpine herbs, natural menthol, and soothing honey lemon syrup in the center. They are perfect to keep with me so that I can get relief anytime and I can offer them to anyone who seems to need some relief.
After School Healthy Habits
The school day is really long, so I try as often as I can to allow my kids to decompress a little before jumping right into after school chores or activities. One way that we do that is by letting them set a timer and watch a show or play on an electronic. It lets them relax a little before feeling like they are going from one job to another. I have also found that they are a lot more willing to do their chores once they have had some time to relax. The key to this is setting the timer though!
