I love that Memorial Day seems to be the unofficial kick off to summer fun! Although, we don’t usually do anything spectacular on Memorial Day, I always love just spending time with my family and whipping out the grill to celebrate summer coming in our own way. In Idaho, it isn’t warm enough to go swimming or anything, so we usually eat a casual outdoor lunch or dinner and just spend time together as a family. It is my favorite!
One of my favorite parts about the change of season, is the change that happens to my wardrobe too. I love bringing out the shorts and short sleeved shirts again when the warm weather comes. It is always fun to get my family a few new pieces of summer clothing too just as a way to celebrate the warm weather finally making its arrival here in Idaho, where the winter weather never seems to go away.
I like to pretend that I can get my family to all match and go to fancy BBQ parties, so I put together a few fun outfits that would be perfect for my family to wear on Memorial Day. They would be great for Independence Day too!
First up, is my outfit.
I like to think that I would be able to wear a knee length summer dress at a family BBQ but when it comes right down to it, shorts are the way to go when you plan on chasing a toddler around the backyard while keeping them away from the hot grill while they are trying to “help” grandpa cook burgers. I love the little hint of patriotic spirit that comes from the flag scarf. These espadrille wedges are the perfect way to dress up the entire look too.
Now for dad’s look.
I know that men don’t typically want to look like they are walking around like a giant American flag, so I chose to downplay the whole red, white, and blue theme and pull it in a little more casually. The boat shoes are perfect for running around in the backyard, but are still a little more dressy and stylish than tennis shoes. Dad can feel both comfortable and stylish in this outfit.
Last but not least, little girl’s outfit.
Toddlers love to run around and make the most of life. That is why I chose these super cute star shorts for this Memorial Day outfit. Little girl can run around like the crazy person she is, and still look like a million bucks. The poncho and sunglasses seemed to be the perfect pair to go with the shorts too. And who can ignore the adorably, sassy espadrille sandals? She can match mom without breaking an ankle with tall wedges. Perfection!
Want to know the best part about all of these outfits? They are all from Old Navy and every single item in their store will be up to 50% off on Memorial Day weekend! Now, if that wasn’t great enough, every Old Navy store will be giving away a Weber grill on Saturday May 24th too so you can really celebrate Memorial Day in style!
It doesn’t get much better than that! I want to know what your plans are for Memorial day. How are you going to celebrate the unofficial first day of summer?
